Joseph Ketchum Edgerton (1818-1893) was a U. S. Representative from Indiana. Edgerton attended the public schools of Clinton County, New York. He studied law in Plattsburg (New York) Academy. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in New York City in 1839. He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1844 and continued the practice of law. He served as director of the Fort Wayne & Chicago Railroad Co. in 1854 and later its president. He served as president of the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad Co. in 1855. He served as director of the Ohio & Indiana Railroad Co. in 1856. Edgerton was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress (1863-1865). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1864 to the Thirty-ninth Congress.
