Introduction I was born on August 10, 1939 in Overton, Texas in a small building behind the home of Horace Mill, (a White farmer) to McKinley Gipson Sr. and Rena Ervin Gipson. My father named me Therlee after his brother who died when he was an infant. My family moved to Tyler, Texas two years later. One day when I was around four years old, I asked my mother where did I come from? She told me to ask my father. I asked my father, he told me while he was in the barn one morning forking the hay stack I was in the hay stack and he found me and took me to my mother. Then I said, If you found me, you are not my real father. Later, I went to my mother and asked her again; she told me I ask too many questions. She said you will find out later in life where you came from. From that on I never trusted my father to tell me the truth again.
