This is the last but one in a series of thirty-four picture books telling the story of Monkey, adapted from the ancient Chinese fantasy novel Journey to the West. In the previous book the Tang Priest and his disciples arrived at a city in India where a princess was tossing a ball to decide who her husband was to be. The ball hit the Tang Priest, but Monkey found out the supposed princess was really the Jade Hare from the moon. After rescuing the true princess, the pilgrims went on with their journey to the West. Monkey Revives the Dead, with sixty-two colour illustrations, tells about the encounter of the Tang Priest and his party with a rich man. Squire Kou receives the pilgrims with a great display of wealth. Later local bandits steal his gold and silver and kill him. The Tang Priest and his disciples are falsely accused of the theft and put in jail. Monkey finds out that Squire Kou's wife has made the false charge, so he has Squire Kou brought back to life and the whole...
