There is no mistaking Judge Kent's views on this subject, for as early as April 28, 1809, he writes to his brother:--James Kent to Moss Kent. April 28, 1809. The pacification with England is a very propitious event for the United States and for England, and I think that both Governments have come off with honor, and that England has seized the occasion with address and placed us with regard to France just where she wants us. Few and brief are the allusions which he makes to the war.
