The script, story, screenplay, dialogue and lyrics of the film were penned by the Kannada cinema superstar Upendra. Although N Lokanath and Rajaram were credited as directors, there have been strong rumours that the entire film's direction unit was under Upendra's control. The film starred Upendra, Prabhu Deva and Priyanka Upendra in the lead roles. The movie was a Metaphorical Dramatization of the century old Kaveri River water dispute between the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and was released when tensions were high between the two states over the matter.
