This volume considers the challenges that increased commercialization has brought to microfinancing efforts in Indonesia. The implications of rapid commercialization and the remaining challenges to expanding outreach through commercial microfinance institutions are explored, with a look at the potential positive effects of microfinance on poverty reduction. Recommendations are made for positive approaches for expanding commercial microfinancing while preserving the traditional social objective of microfinance institutions to expand access to the poor for demand-driven, sustainable financial services.
