As this volume is the product of three authors, some explanation of each one's contribution is in order. As to the first section of the volume, on the seals of the eastern frontiers, Professor Oikonomides identified the seals to be published and grouped them by geographical designation. He read and transcribed the seals, and began the commentary, which was complete in some cases and preliminary in others. To complete this section, Eric McGeer verified the readings of the seals and edited the existing commentary, and went on to develop the work left unfinished. This involved conducting further research on parts of the commentary, bringing the bibliography up to date, and recording parallel specimens published in other catalogues.
