He was educated at the State Normal School in Cortland, NY, gaining his medical training at Dartmouth Medical School, where he graduated in 1882. He authored Grand Junction, Colorado as a Health Resort (1895), Alkazar, the Moorish Alchemist and Other Poems (1898), My Cabinet of Bric-a-Brac (1898), A California Girl (1902) and The Sinbad Mines: A Tale of the Rockies (1905) as well as other books of poetry.
