This book is a description of my family's struggles during the Depression and WWII that followed. The time period is from 1900 to 1955. The people were those described by Tom Brokow as the "Greatest Generation". My husband describes the book as portraits over time. I describe it as :The Way It Was, Once Upon A time." The people of that time were poor in money, but rich in values, such as a strong work ethic and being good neighbors. They would rather have died than be on the public dole. However, collectively, each took care of the other. If a family had no food, a care package would magically appear at the kitchen door. And many people lived in "The House By The Side Of The Road. Come on in to 601 Mary Street Hill and enjoy the folks. This book will be a blessing to you.
