It has moved into a central place in condensed matter studies. Statistical physics, and more specifically, the theory of transitions between states of matter, more or less defines what we know about 'everyday' matter and its transformations. The major aim of this work is to study quantum phase transitions and critical points for some chains of nuclei in the rare-earth region and to locate these nuclei on the critical points X(5) and E(5) by employing the most general form of the Interacting Boson Model (IBM-1).
