Roger Thomas (born August 19, 1947) is an American football coach, currently commissioner of the NCAA Division II North Central Conference. Thomas was the head coach of the University of North Dakota (UND) Fighting Sioux football team from 1986 to 1998, and the UND athletic director from 1999 to 2005. An athletic director (commonly "athletics director" or "AD") is an administrator at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, who oversees the work of coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic programs. At some colleges, the athletic director may hold academic rank but this practice is on the wane. At most colleges, he/she is not a faculty member but a full-time administrator.
