In this investigation it has been found that plant density of 44 hills m-2 proved superior than 55 hills m-2 for grain yield. Among different weed management practices tried, application of butachlor provided effective control of weeds and improving rice yield. Weeds that would have escaped the effect of herbicides applied in the first week of transplanted rice, could be controlled by maintaining irrigation water continuously upto dough stage when weeds can no longer be a big threat to rice yield.Thus, the combination of 44 hills m-2, 5 cm water regime and butachlor helped to improve grain yield of transplanted rice followed by 44 hills m-2, and 10 cm water regime and butachlor (apart from weed free
