I describe the process of going through aviation cadet classification, attending preflight school, primary, basic, and advanced flying school. I received my wings and commission in November 1943. I was a B25 instructor pilot in advanced flying school for a year, trained in the Douglas A20 Havocattack bomber, and flew low-level combat missions in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. Returning to active duty in August 1947, I attended meteorology school at New York University and served two years as a station weather officer at a reserve Air Force Base. I married and returned to civilian life to earn a degree in chemistry.
